HOW DATA CENTER SERVES THE CAMPUS!!
What is a Data Center?
A data center is a centralized physical facility that stores businesses’ critical applications and data. A common data center definition is a location where computing and networking equipment is used to collect, process, and store data, as well as to distribute and enable access to resources.
What does a data center do?
A data center is a facility that centralizes an organization’s shared IT operations and equipment for the purposes of storing, processing, and disseminating data and applications. Because they house an organization’s most critical and proprietary assets, data centers are vital to the continuity of daily operations.
Data centers are often referred to as a singular thing, but in actuality they are composed of a number of technical elements. These can be broken down into three categories:
- Compute: The memory and processing power to run the applications, generally provided by high-end servers
- Storage: Important enterprise data is generally housed in a data center, on media ranging from tape to solid-state drives, with multiple backups
- Networking: Interconnections between data center components and to the outside world, including routers, switches, application-delivery controllers, and more.
By this diagram we can see that every LANs are interconnected with the help of switches and servers. The whole set up is centered at one spot i.e switch or server. Here let’s assume that switch acts as a data center through which anyone in the campus can have access. Suppose that the student from IT dept. wants to access moodle ,then they can access anywhere irrespective of time and with low latency.
Data center architecture in WCE campus:
WCE campus of significant size will likely have multiple data centers, possibly in multiple regions. This gives the organization flexibility in how it backs up its information and protects against natural and man-made disasters such as floods, storms and terrorist threats. How the data center is architected can require some of the difficult decisions because there are almost unlimited options.
